Slurping drinks - what is the age where it again becomes ok to do it?

Little kids make noise when eating. Then they are (hopefully) taught to quiet it down as their motor skills improve.
Later on, at some point it again becomes socially acceptable to slurp liquids. I guess I missed the memo, but it's really irritating. Why the hell do people do this anyway, and are they so clueless that they don't notice it themselves? Hell, I can't stand eating when it's very quiet, because I hate the sound of my own chewing being conducted through my skull.

I slurp my drinks because they taste better that way.

Don't ever go to China. Everybody there slurps and smacks and chomps and makes all sorts of loud noises when they eat and drink---it's considered complimentary to whomever made the food for you. Silent, controlled consumption of edibles and liquids indicates that you don't think it's tasty---if you actually liked it, you'd say to hell with restraint and just chow down.

I like slurping my liquids because I want to get every last little drop that I paid for. At restaurants, I only do it when someone points out that it's rude. ;)

i went to the food court at the local super88 market and i was shocked at the, ahem, enthusiasm the patrons had for their meals. :D at small asian restaurants, i've noticed people were much more restrained. either way, i felt like i was doing it all wrong :p

Try sneezing on somebody's face, that's fun and socially acceptable.

Masticating food loudly and with mouth open tends to increase the contact of the food with the taste receptors in the mouth as well as allowing the aroma of the food to be inhaled through the nose (from the mouth). The increased smell of the aroma correlates to the enhanced "taste" of the food.

Plug your nose, and food won't "taste" different (or be enjoyable at all) whether masticating with mouth open or closed.
