sluggish laptop

Hey I use a dell latitude laptop for work, games, music and movies. However, when I play songs on winamp, they seem like they lag a little bit, kinda like the song is just a little slower than it should....maybe stretched is a better word. Movies too seem, to slow down and "stretch". I have a lot of programs running in the lower right hand of the screen, but most of them I can't disable and when I check my CPU usage it doesn't go above 5%. So why is everything being laggy? The hard drive has been defragmented 3 times and it still does it. Any suggestions? Or any idea how to get rid of some of these stupid programs running so I can speed up my computer?

Winamp 2.x or 3.x?

Does it lagg when you are using media player?

It lags with with Windows Media Player 9, DivX 2.1, Winamp 2.91 or 3 and Quicktime 6.
