Sluggish Dual Core Performance

With only one core under heavy use yet the system responds sluggishly when multitasking.

E6600 OC'ed with 4 GB RAM running 32 bit XP. Is this an XP problem? I haven't used Vista much since its installation. Thought that the extra core would eliminate the sluggishness. Guess there are bottle necks elsewhere.

And you do have the dualcore patches/hotfix installed, righto ? Should be no need to do so in Vista, but I think it has to be done in XP. Dunno it it'll fix the problem though. What's being sluggish, what apps you using?

I have done all the Windows Update. Is there a specific dualcore patch to check for?

Just surfing and running some downloads in the background (bittorrents and P2P). Or gaming and surfing on 2nd monitor. By sluggish, I mean the system is slow to switch between active windows and updating them. Network bandwidth isn't the issue either. Drives are fully defragged. OS is driven by a pair of Raptor-X in Raid 0.

Is the dualcore patches/hotfix on Win XP SP2 necessary if you are not gaming? Any improvement or necessity for general apps or web surfing?

So these patches are not made available in WinXP Windows Update correct? Any reason not to download? I don't have any performance issues, but if this speeds me up more or prevents a future issue I will install them.

This is exactly what I would like to know as well. :)

No issues here, but if downloading these helps in anyway...will be the first thing I do when I get home.
