SLR lens questions

Similar to my previous post, I may just get a wide angle lens converter (.5 or so) for my pentax k2000 camera. If I were to just screw it onto my existing 18-55mm lens, what diameter should I be looking for? Some aftermarket's mention 31mm, others 35mm.
