I'm wondering if buying an SLR camera is worthwhile anymore. I'm interested in the Nikon N75, but does buying an SLR film camera make sense in today's digital world? Or does it make more sense to buy a 5+ MP digicam and just take prints?

I don't think it will ever be extinct. A technology so pervasive will always have its followers, even if it eventually gets marginalized.

If I were to buy one today, I would make sure the lenses also fit a digital slr. They end up being your biggest investment, so if you ever go digital you'll be all set.

If you buy the N75, not only will all your lenses hold their value, but if you ever want to go digital Nikon sells the D70, which is a great DSLR. The only part of that setup that will lose value is the camera body.

Film cameras may eventually be a thing of the past, but SLR is here to stay. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all camera, and interchangable lenses are a must.

Hell no, I plan on keeping my Minolta 35mm SLR (STsi, FYI) forever. You can always fall back on film for archival-quality prints if you're not near a computer.
