Yes. Worldwide sea ice settled at 1979 levels.
You sea ice I don't (
)
http://nsidc.org/sotc/sea_ice.html (The National Snow and Ice Data Center) :>
"The Arctic sea ice September minimum extent reached new record lows in 2002 (15.3 percent below the 1979-2000 average), 2005 (20.9 percent below), and 2007 (39.2 percent below). In 2007, Arctic sea ice broke all previous records by early August?a month before the end of melt season (see Arctic Sea Ice Shatters All Previous Record Lows). In 2008, the September minimum was the second lowest on record, only 9 percent above 2007, despite cooler summer conditions (see Arctic Sea Ice Down to Second-Lowest Extent; Likely Record-Low Volume)."
Sept 2008 extent : -78,000 square kms compared to 1979.
http://www.nsidc.com/data/seai...mages/N_timeseries.png = shows through dec 2008 - about the same as last year, which is absolutely nowhere near 1979.
It must be the Antarctic?
As for that : >

"Although Arctic sea ice extent underwent a strong decline from 1979 to 2007, Antarctic sea ice underwent a slight increase. " .
http://nsidc.org/data/seaice_index/ > look at the graphs. Antarctic goes up slightly, Arctic goes to Greenland.
All in all it doesn't look as if total sea ice levels (Arctic + Antarctic) are anywhere near 1979 levels.
And don't even mention the 'land ice'.
This site
http://climate.jpl.nasa.gov/ is also good for an overview.
