Slowing down fan speeds

its freakin loud as hell and i want to slow it down while im not gaming is there a program i can use to do that? it gets so loud at night i have to turn my computer off but is there a way just to slow it down?

It doesn't really switch between them at the right times though, often staying in 3D mode long after you have closed down a game. I have just turned down the speed a bit for all three modes. The difference in temperatures is very small while the noise level goes down a lot.

Sounds like this may apply to you.

I didnt have enough in the bag to give it a shot though so YMMV. I ended up just buying NV silencers when I had my GTs.

you can also just edit your 2D/lowpower3D/performance3D fan speeds separately in your cards bios using NiBiTor v2.7 and nvFlash v5.31

IIRC, the nVidia reference bios has fans at:
3D perf: 100%
3D l/p : 43%
2D : 26%

you could use RivaTuner to experiment with fanspeeds to find the best settings for each mode, then edit the card's bios, flash and be done with it

or you could just install a Zalman VF700Cu or NVSilencer😉

i have a vf700cu on my broken x800gto but doesnt it use seperate screws for the nvidia cards? and id have to get new thermal tape for the ram sinks i think i bought my gto with the zalman on it so i dont have an accesories

I found that none of the programs will control my 7800GT's fan.

Buy a Zalman Fanmate for ~$5. Unplug the fan from the video card. Match up the same color wires and put it on the Zalmans 3 pin connector. You should have one pin showing. Then just turn it all the way down. I have mine all the way down all the time, even when gaming and it idles ~43C and loads ~65C. This is at the very minimum speed. It is nearly inaudible. (The again i have the EVGA CO so it is a copper HS)

Rivatuner doesn't give me the option to set my fan speeds for 2D and 3D mode....It only allows me to set my fan at a certain speed, but keeps it there at all times....This is with a X1900, so I don't know if im not looking hard enough or it doesn't support the X1900 series. If it does allow me to set certain 2D and 3D fan speeds with my X1900, please let me know...Thanks.
