I'm in the process of building my new system and I was wondering wha the minimum stock processor I would need to work with a 7800GTX. For exaple, would this video card be overkill on a NON overclocked 3500+ Venice? What about a 3200+?

One or two review sites mentioned that the 3500+ was the "sweet spot" for the 7800GTX.
You can probably save some bucks, get a 3200 and o/c to 3500 pretty easily. If you don't intend to o/c, just get the 3500. IMHO

Depend on the resolution you play If you playing at 1280 or lower then you are severally Bottlenecked by the CPU. What this means is the video card could continue to go up in FPS if you a had a fster CPU. When your working higher then that then the difference decrease and a 1 GHz might only mean 5 FPS. I would still suggest getting as fast a CPU as you can afford.

Just off the top of my head, w/o any research i was going to say anything around 3ghz. (amd rated or intel actual) But after reading the article at the bottom, id take that 3ghz chip and oc it. Honestly in 1/2 of those games, the video card was still the bottleneck at high settings dispite the processor used. But in others, the 3000+ was too slow. So basically 2.2ghz a64+ (in whatever core u decide on). For example that 3500+ reccomendation is a perfect candidate.

2 GHz w/256kb cache highly recommended

1mb cache is better, however.

2mb cache is even better...

I have a 7800GT and 2.2ghz is the sweet spot for me. I have a 3000+ overclocked. Didn't notice much when I overclocked it to 2.4ghz. At 1.8 ghz it was worse than my 3200+ barton
