Slower Fan Speed in New Mobo.

I just changed my mobo and plugged back my original CPU fan. Before when I was using the other board, the fan had a stable rotation speed around 6400 rpm but with the new board, the fan speed is only around 5700 rpm! So why does it mean the new board is not providing enough voltage to my CPU fan to cause slower fan rotation?

Thanks

I wouldn't plug a fan that fast into a motherboard header. It's quite possible to burn the headers out if you draw too much amperage from them. Try powering it from the power supply directly, using a 3-pin-to-4-pin converter.

I have my Coolermaster HHC-001 plugged into my Soltek mobo for like 6 months now and no problems, it rotates at just over 7K RPM :D

that's weird it would slow down!!

Your new mobo may have a fan speed control. It varies the speed with temps, some work with both the power supply and cpu fan. I like it; I prefer quiet over cool temps.

Good point, maybe the mobo is an Asus equipped with Q-Fan? If so, it can be disabled in the BIOS. If the fan speed suddenly jumps when the system reboots, that's probably what's going on.
