slowdown using ata100 card and drive

Ok Here is the scoop
P-III 700 overclocked to 124 bus 868 Mhz
ch1 Hp 9310 cd writer
ch2 dvd
Ata card ch1 maxtor 20 gig 7200 rpm ata 100
Ata card ch2 WD 15 gig 7200 rpm ata 66
128 meg pc 133
asus p3v4x
Win me
netgear router and linksys switch

ok after I installed the ata 100 card which is really a promise card in a magic package my system has slowed to a crawl.
I am booting from the card
any ideas as to what's causing the slowdown

Could you provide some more detail as to what kind of slowdowns are occuring? Like when and how much? Is it consistent? Did you plug in everything properly? 😛

Ok Boot time seems normal around 40 to 60 seconds
after that it slows right down opening up a folder
or loadinf a program can take 3 to 6 seconds and the
loading of a program seems like it's loading little
sections at a time. I really noyice it loading dreamweaver
or doing any video editing.

I don't have any beenchmarks programs but if
one is recomended I'll do it and post back.

Is the card installed properly...check the status of it under the device manager in system properties. Try updating the drivers and bios also.

are you talking about the IOMagic ATA 100 card? I have it. Works great for me. I am using the PROMISE drivers though. Try that.

I have the promise drivers installed for win me
the card is installed properly
I removed scan reg from the start up and speed did improve

One other question for the masters here will adding 128 on top
of the 128 meg I have make a difference. I have read that windows
98/me wont use more than 128 True or False.

I read the thread and I think I'll go for another 128 but
first what is a good program to beenchmark with, I want to
know the difference it makes in a number value.
