I've been having this problem ever since I got my computer up and running. Here it is:
I turn on my computer, it boots up. When I play a game, Half-Life for example, it runs slow. I get lower than normal framerates and every movement is jerky. If I wait a few hours after starting up my computer, (no fewer than 3, no more than 5) the game runs fine. It only happens in those first few hours after starting or restarting. It happens in any game, and only in Software mode (I don't have a good video card). It may happen in other applications but it's only noticeable in games. If I restart my computer at any time, whether it's 10 minutes or 10 hours after booting up for the day, the slowdown still occurs.
My system: Windows ME, AMD Duron 800 mHz on ABIT KT7, 2 sticks of 128 MB SDRAM, STB Velocity 128, SupraMax 56k PCI, Sound Blaster Live! Value

Two other problems:
Whenever I open Control Panel I get a message titled MMCPL that says: "Unable to load language resources." I only have the choice of OK so I click it and the message goes away. After that Control Panel finishes loading and I can use every control with no problem. It always happens when loading Control Panel.
When I try to run Paint (mspaint.exe) I get the error message: "Mspaint has caused an error in MFC42.DLL. Mspaint will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer." I only have the choice of Close so I click it and Paint doesn't start. It always happens when loading Paint. Of course restarting didn't cure the problem.
Thanks
