slowdown of IE autocomplete while running d.net client

I just reinstalled the d.net client and cracking RC5 again after 7 months off (just got bored with it and didn't like the CPU temps cranking up so high). I'm now running in WinXP on an Athlon MP 1.2GHz. I noticed that when I have the d.net client running, AutoComplete in Internet Explorer or the Run command dialog is very slow to respond. As soon as I shut down d.net, they work fine and complete things quickly, but while it's running, I'll have 3/4 of a URL typed before it finally completes it for me (and oddly, if I keep typing it will remove the auto-completion if I have the client running, but it doesn't do that with the client turned off).

This is very odd, and quite annoying. So much so that I may end up again quitting the project.

I also noticed on the teamandandtech.com stats pages, despite a 7 month absences, I'm still in 201st place out of nearly 1300 registered members on the team using that proxy. Are there really that many people that joined and then quit? I mean I was in like 100th place when I quit, I've only gone down 100 places in all this time? And so many of those people haven't been heard from in over a year.

Humm, I don't know what to say to that, LE. I myself don't use autocomplete and rarely use the run command, so if there is a problem, I wouldn't notice. If possible, could you(or someone else) try this on another machine? That way we can confirm it exists, and file it with Bugzilla. In the mean time, there's not much you can do, I'm afraid. The Dnet client runs at the lowest possible priority by default, so you can't just "turn it down" to get back that speed.🙁

As for the TA.com stats pages, yes, things are as bleak as they look. There really are that many people who have joined and quit, and not many people producing enough WU's to pass you even in that long period of time. At this time, however, it's not much to get worried about, the project will be over in under a year, so any major recruiting would be a waste of energy for the most part. Good to see you again though, and get off that computer so it can have more cycles to crack RC5 with.😛

Oddly, the problem with auto-complete seems to have cleared up. I don't THINK I did anything, it started working right earlier today but I didn't have time to think about what I'd done. I may have rebooted, I'm not sure, and I know I disabled some XP services that I'd missed on my last round through. I also removed the "msipcsv.exe" process that's installed by spyware apparently, which may well have been the cause of a browser issue.

I now have my two functional computers cracking RC5. Athlon 1GHz and MP 1.2GHz (just a single processor, I bought it to get a Palomino right away). Frightening the difference between a 1.2GHz MP with DDR memory and a 1GHZ t-bird with PC133. Over twice the power for RC5 on the MP system.

I disagree that recruiting drives aren't worth it. Just because the end is in site doesn't mean people can just leave and it'll continue to get closer. The more people that leave, the longer it will take to actually reach that end that looked so close before. And the time it took to get to this point was based on the fact that there were constantly more people being added. Now we're looking at a lack of new recruits as well as people leaving to go to other projects or just getting bored with it like me. I'm betting that as it gets closer, people will rejoin, because if the crack hasn't been found by the time we reach maybe 90%, then the lower remaining keyspace will mean everybody will have that much better a chance of being the one who finds it.
