I currently have 3 drives installed:

500GB Seagate
750GB WD
1TB WD

The 1TB is very very slow when the WD 750GB is plugged in, but works just fine when the 750GB is unplugged. This doesn't bother me because I'm getting rid of the 750GB, but I need to transfer about 550GB of data from it to the 1TB and that might take a while...

Those are all SATA models? Have you looked at event viewer, and check what it is saying concerning errors/warnings?

If they are all SATA drives, then something very strange is going on.
Try different SATA ports, and see if it makes any difference.

or assuming there is no mobo issue. Id say mobo issue is more likely since this is his THIRD RMA for the same drive...

It's not working properly again... this is starting to anger me...

I tried switching all ports/sata cables. The other 2 drives are reading/writing at proper speeds...this 1TB still copies files at 2mb/s so it takes a very very long time to copy my music collection and everything else...

Full format also took about 7 hours to get to 8% so the issue is with the drive being slow itself...

I have no idea what to do now...

I have an idea, if you have access to another computer or a friends, try the drive on that, I'm willing to bet it works like a charm. The issue is highly likely to be your board, if you can just get a different model of hard drive and it will probably work just fine. Thats my humble opinion...

Have you tried doing any of your tests/installs/benches with your rig not overclocked?

I'm ready to conclude that it's just a problem with my motherboard. I'm going to be upgrading the system soon...

However, it copies files less than 150GB with normal speed (70-90mb/s)...after that size, it gets about half way and drops down to 2mb/s.

This is pretty typical if windows is changing the transfer mode to PIO from UDMA because it reaches a set minimum number of error issues. I've had this happen on DVD drives and it can be a pain to track down.

the mobo is a huge board that contains DOZENS of different devices, and multiple processors, a battery, memory, bus, and a variety of plugs... not to mention software the manages it all... Your CPU and ram only really impact the speed of your computer, but its the mobo that gives it its individuality... So if you are having "issues" with your computer that are not fixed by replacing the specific item with a non broken model, then it is almost always because of your mobo.

Try ASUS, MSI, or gigabyte.
