Slow write with Plextor 40x12x40A

I just got the new Plextor 40x12x40A, but when I try to burn at anything above 12x, even though the estimated time says like 1:40, it takes forever. I checked the Plextor website which said that the problem might be that DMA is not enabled, but I thought DMA was automatically enabled in XP? How can I check and see if this is enabled? Also, I'm using 32x rated CDRWs, but I don't think thats the prob since even with the CDRW they gave me, which is supposed to be 40x rated, it ran super slow.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem may be?

I use Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.1 Platinum, and I have the buffer underrun enabled. Also, I'm using Cable Select between my writer and DVD player, if that makes any difference at all. Check my profile for the specs on my comp.

Thanks...

To check if DMA is enabled, go into your device manager. Look for "hard disk controllers" and open up that tree. Look for "primary IDE controller" and "secondary IDE controller". Double click them and go into the second tab (i forget whats it called) and make sure the two drop down lists says "Use DMA when available" and not "PIO mode".
