"Slow" wireless N speeds

So I got a new ISP (Webpass) which, which I plug straight into the router:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o02_s00_i00

I get a consistent 70-100mbps based on speedtest.net

However with my Dell laptop which also supports N, I'll max out at around 40mbps. How can I tell if it's the router or my laptop that's being limited? Or is there anything else I can do to maximize the speed?

That can be typical if there is noise or interference. Use 40 Mhz channels in the 5 Ghz band if you can. 2.4 is about worthless for "real" 802.11n thruput.

First find out what are the exact capabilities of your Wireless Cards.

40 Mb/sec. is Not that uncommon for many 802.11n cards.

To get significant Higher you need a Wireless Router and Wireless card that can do Dual Band and can operate on both 2.4 and 5 GHz.
