Slow Windows XP with Dual Core CPU

I just build my new machine and I am having some problems getting a speedy windows load.

POST is fast, everything is ok...when Windows XP starts it loads the sounds and the antivirus and sits for around 30 seconds before it decides to finish loading the rest of the stuff. Once this is done the computer seems to work just fine and speedy.

Not sure why this is happening...

My old system:
A7N8X Dlx rev 2 Bios 1007
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 400FSB
ATI Radeon 9800Pro
2 x 512 Corsair XMS CAS 2 RAM

New System:
EPOX EP-9NPA+Ultra
AMD Athlon 64 x2 3800+
ATI Radeon X800XL 256MB
2 x 512 Corsair XMS CAS 2 RAM

I have already installed the AMD Drivers from the AMD website.
I turned off cool n' quiet in the bios.
Using Windows XP Pro SP2

A fresh install of Windows was done.

Dont know what else to think of...

Has anyone experienced this?

Help appreciated.

There is a hot fix from Microsoft that fixes issues with Dual Core PCs running XP. PM me your email if you want to find where to get it.

It can be referenced at Microsoft by KB896256 though you either have to call them to get it or find other means of obtaining the file....

Did you install the motherboard drivers?

Check the event viewer. Maybe something is having trouble starting up.

I would also scan device manager and look for devices that are misbehaving.

This is what I found in the event viewer.
It happens every time windows starts.

Source: PerfNet Event: 2004
Unable to open the Server service. Server performance data will not be returned. Error code returned is in data DWORD 0.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Everytime it shuts down...there's this one.

Source: WrNetworkDriver Event: 10
Error: WR_::KERNEL_DRIVER_STUB::Start(WrKPoET2000) failed. Error = A device attached to the system is not functioning.
.

Well there you go. It's taking long on startup because it's trying (and failing) to start the server service.

Maybe somethings wrong with your NIC. I don't know though, that's just a guess. I would try updating or reinstalling my NIC drivers.

yes that seems to be the case...when I disconnected the NIC from the DSL Modem and restarted the Computer...the boot sequence was fine.

I'm not sure why there's anything wrong with it. I tested the loopback and it was ok..

Is this software or hardware related? anybody knows?

Do yourself a favor and put a hardware NAT router between your DSL modem and your NIC. It should speed up your boot times and it will provide added security as well.

I had an old hardware NAT router that does not support the Gigabit Ethernet ... I'm switching buildings withing the next two weeks and then verizon will provide a new router...in the meantime I'm using ZoneAlarm to help with security.

Use the hardware router for now. Unless you need computer-to-computer transfers with Gigabit ethernet, a 100 MB (or even a 10 MB) will be more than enough bandwidth for your DSL modem connection.

unfortunately the router won't see the nic for some bizarre reason...I thought the nic had issues but when it worked with the dsl modem ... i conluded that the nic was ok and the router just did not support the nic. The router is a linksys 10/100 can't remember the model but it is outdated and could not find a newer firmware.
