Does anyone know why, when I go to START > My Computer, a FLASHLIGHT going back-n-fourth across a FOLDER comes on for 3-5 minutes before displaying my drives & how to speed it up or fix it?

HELP PLEASE!!

Are your drives running in DMA mode, check your IDE controllers in Device Manager. Have you installed the latest motherboard drivers?

Check your system services, and see if the Indexing Service is running.
If it is, try changing it to manual startup, and stop that instance.

is there a reason why me IE icon on the taskbar to take 10sec for it to open when you click it.. over and over after any formats? What services is causin this if indexing is off and a couple more.

if its doing it on my computer, then something listed in there is taking a while to refresh the data.... do you have a zip drive? or a cdrom with a bad cd in it? or an old harddrive? or a scanner or camera that takes a while to respond? try disconnecting the devices one at a time and see how it goes.

is anything else slow?
