slow windows boot

When the Windows 2000 Professional logo comes up the loading bar starts off halfway finished and then takes 20-25 seconds before it starts loading windows. For some reason there is absolutely no hard drive activity during this time. Otherwise once I get into windows everything works as it should, no lockups or problems. I just upgraded my system in the last week, here are the specs.

AMD 64 3200
Asus A8V Deluxe
1 gig of Mushkin 3200 2-2-2 Ram
DVD Drive
2 x 120 gig WD hd
BFG 6800 GT OC
Antec Truepower 430

I did not install any Raid drivers because I have no plans of ever using a Raid setup. Can windows get stuck if the drivers are not there? I have checked the physical connections inside the case and cannot find anything wrong. Something I need to set in the bios?

That's the thing, the primary drive is new. The old primary died in December and I replaced it with a new WD 120 gig drive. I first reformatted the drive when I was still using my old setup, the only difference being a different motherboard and cpu. I used to have a Athlon XP 2400+ and a Asus A7V8X, this combined with everything in my OP never produced a slow boot. Hard drive was always active at startup. I'll try setting my drive with windows to boot first but don't think that is really going to make a huge difference.

I set the primary drive with windows to boot first but no luck, it still hangs for some time before loading windows. I disabled a number of sata and raid controllers in bios, could this cause a problem? I'm not using sata drives and no raid is in place so I can't think of why this system is so slow to boot. Any suggestions?
