Slow Win2k Reboot

I'm having a weird problem with Win2k. The initial bootup is fine, but when I reboot the machine, I noticed that it takes a long time for the gui to finish loading. Everything comes up normally, but if I click the Start button, nothing happens for a good 45-60 seconds. The button just stays depressed and finally responds after about a minute. I initially thought it had something to do with my NIC card because it took that long for the "network cable unplugged" icon to show up in the system tray. So I unplugged the NIC card from my other machine and had no problem. This does not occur with Win98SE or WinXP Pro. I did clean installs of all the OSes and only installed drivers, no apps. My system specs are (no snickering, it's just something I beat up on until I can afford to build an nice Atlhon XP machine.):

Asus P3V4X
Intel PIII 800EB (not overclocked)
3 Maxtor 5400RPM ATA100 drives on a Romtec Trios
Visiontek GeForce3 Ti200
Linksys NIC
Sound Blaster 16PCI
ADS USB Card
SMC 2662 Wireless USB Adapter

Any ideas why this is happening?

Do you have any antivirus software loaded?
I know that Mcafee can cause thiese types of symptons on win2k pc's....also check to see how much stuff you have loading on startup.
I run a PIII866 on an ASUS CUSL2 with 512meg and it runs just fine, dont think you need to worry about a new pc quite yet! :)

I've got nothing loaded on this machine except the OS and the drivers. I could understand if I had a boatload of stuff in Startup, but this thing hasn't got any apps on it.

I have as similar problem. In Event Viewer it says I am experiencing 30000 millisecond "timeout waiting for a response from the DNScache service". CPU usage goes to 100% and effectively stalls any other app from operating until after the timeout - at which point everythnig is fine.

Sometimes I get the same message (and sypmtoms) except its "dmserver".

I would love to know how to fix this, since its the only flaw in the perfect (for me) rig.

I found one article in the MSKB that references my event error:

<< When you create or modify an Internet Information Server (IIS) application, directory, virtual directory, or site, one or more of the following symptoms may occur:

In the Event Viewer, one of the following events may occur (please note that the application path listed in the description will vary depending on the path to your application):

Source: w3svc
Event ID: 36
Description: The server failed to load the application "/lm/w3svc/1/root" The error was 8007053D.

-or-

Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7011
Description: "Timeout (120000 milliseconds) waiting for transaction response".

I'm using 2K Pro not server. Is this even relevant? I sure hope not because I don't understand a word of the proposed solution :(
