Slow WiFi download, upload higher than download

I have a GPON Huawei HG8247 that delivers 200 Mbps download and 30 Mbps upload through Gigabit ethernet.

The problem is that through wirelesss, with a Windows 7 or 8 laptop that reports 150 Mbps capability, sitting at 1 meter away from the device, the download speed is around 22 Mbps and the upload speed is around 26 Mbps, with the exact same server used for testing the wired connection.

I tried forcing N mode but I'm unable to change the mixed mode in the device's web interface, it's simply grayed out.

Sounds like you're using wireless G, and internal laptop wifi adapters are typically pretty mediocre. Do you have any other wireless devices you could test?

I tested with 2 laptops, one is a Toshiba Pentium SB with a Realtek card, the other is a Samsung Pentium SB with an Atheros card. And also with 2 phones, a Lumia and some Android quadcore phone. Neither is able to exceed ~25 Mbps with Speedtest.net.

I've also tested the internal LAN, between my wired desktop and my wireless laptop, the laptop can copy a large file at ~5 MB/s, which is around 40 Mbps, and can send something over the network at ~6 MB/s, which is around 48 Mbps.
Not awesome speeds, but still, about twice the speeds of those over the internet.
Also, task manager in Windows 8 is always reporting that the WiFi network is 802.11N.

So something must be wrong internally with the GPON's software/settings, because previously I had ADSL, and with that modem the wireless speed was ~29 Mbps for download, close to the maximum of 30 Mbps that the ISP was providing at that time.

The GPON is running Linux Busybox. I can telnet into it, but other than that, don't know much about it.
