Slow USB?

Hey guys,

I have a DX58SO mobo in my desktop, and it seems like the USB transfer rates are much slower than with my Macbook Pro.

Any idea what could cause this? I installed all the drivers included with the mobo, and the USB works, it's just not nearly as fast as it should be.

I'll gladly supply more information, just don't know what.

Thanks!

Andy

This is a little vague don't you think?

Desktop chipset is XXXXX,
MacBook Chipset is BBBBB.

All motherboards / chipsets are not created equal.

Based on the info provided, I conclude that the Macbook Pro is a faster machine.

hmmmm... interesting. I figured they'd at least be in the same ballpark.

Well... the desktop is an i7-920... so that's faster in that aspect...

What are you transfering to/from?

Is it plugged directly into the motherboard? (Not through a monitor/usb hub/keyboard)

I have usb ports on my keyboard but anything that gets plugged into there only runs @ 1.1 speeds.

It's a USB stick formatted in FAT16 I believe, but it's much faster on the Mac than the i-7 rig. It is connected through one of the motherboard ports, yes.

Run an experiment and time the transfer on the mac, and on the PC. Then reformat the thumbdrive to NTFS and try the PC again and see if that's the difference.
