Slow USB Zip transfer speeds in XP

I have no clue with this one. Problem is with a USB 1.0 Zip 250 drive and Windows XP. When I try to copy data to the zip drive it copies really really slow. I'm talking 8 minutes to copy a 405k file. The drive is plugged into my USB 2.0 pci card, but I tried it with the motherboard USB 1.0 ports and it was still slow. I believe it's an OS issue, but no clue what. I downloaded the Iomegaware software from their site, but that did not fix it. I hooked the zip drive up to my other computer with Win2000 and copied files across my network and to the zip drive just fine (3-5 minutes for 21MB). Copy the same files on my XP machine and it wants to take 45 minutes. Is there a service in XP or something that might not be running slowing it down??
