Good day..

I've been having a problem now for the past 2-3 weeks where any file copies to a flash drive are taking a exceedingly long time. The drive hits max speed of 4.5-4.8M/sec to copy say .. 4-5gigs of data over. According to Win7, the USB drivers are up to date, even though ICH10 driver is listed as 2006. I even bought a new thumb drive to test, and am having the same problem.

Windows 7 64 bit
Asus Rampage 2 ii Extreme

Installed the latest Intel drivers for the board as well. The other is that in mid-copy of even a smaller file (6-700meg).. it will have a good speed (16mbps), then halt. Just to go again 20secs later at a much slower speed. I have tried reinstalling the USB host controllers (went PS2 and uninstalled all USB devices) to no avail.

Looking at your screenshot, I'm wondering why there are eight different USB Enhanced Host Controllers listed. I suggest uninstalling/reinstalling all USB devices. Start by disconnecting all physical USB devices.

Copy and paste the following into Notepad:

set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
start devmgmt.msc

1] Click "File" and select "Save As". In the "Save As" dialog box set "Save in:" to "Desktop", "File Name" to "setdev.bat", and the "Save as type" to "All Files" then click "Save".

2] Double-click the "setdev.bat" icon which opens an advanced MMC version of Device Manager.

3] Click "View". Select "Devices by type" and "Show hidden devices". What you now see is every device (present and nonpresent) that has ever been installed on the current operating system.

4] Depending on the age of your system you'll probably see several "ghosted" icons. Ghosted icons appear semi-translucent and pale-gray. These are devices no longer installed but still present in the registry. Uninstall all ghosted-icon devices.

5] To uninstall, right-click the ghosted icon and select "Uninstall" then click "OK". Dismiss warnings to restart the computer. Uninstall all ghosted devices.
(Don't be concerned with ghosted devices under "Network adapters" and "Sound, video and game controllers")

6] Under the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" icon uninstall everything.
(Don't worry; when you reboot Windows it will redetect and automatically reinstall the correct USB devices, which is the point of this whole exercise.)

7] Reboot the computer.

8] Reconnect your USB physical device/s. See how many USB Enhanced Host Controllers are listed in Device Manager. Test the transfer rates.

Post back with your results if you get a chance.
