slow uploads but downloads are normal

I have an ME machine on a LAN from which I can download at normal speeds but uploads are very slow. Any help will be appreciated.

A little more info would be helpful.. i.e. is it uploading to another pc on the lan, or to the net, how are the speeds on the other computers, what is your line speed, etc?

I am leidichrr's son, so I will give you some more info:

Any other computer can GET a file from the ME machine fine, but any computer which sends data to it gets slow results.

The ME machine can SEND data fine, but receives it slowly.

All other computers (2 other computers, both running XP) have no problems.

Line speed is 100Mbps.

One XP machine and the ME machine are using the same model # network card - the XP machine works while the ME machine does not.

A switch is being used, but that has not caused problems in the past so I doubt that has anything to do with it. Have tried switching to different ports on the switch to no avail.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Maybe silly but I tend to think physical first, have you tried swapping the cables to the ME box and trying again?

We did test the cable on a different computer. Furthermore, getting files FROM the computer is nice and quick, so wouldn't a bad cable screw up downloads too?

Possibly not. I believe there are seperate send and recieve wires in the cable... where is JackMD5 when you need a pinout diagram 😉

Sounds like it might be a speed negotiation problem. Have you tried forcing 100Mbs on the NIC's properties page? That's assuming its a 10/100 card.

ktwebb: I have searched high and low and cannot find an option that would allow me to force 100Mbps... and it is a 10/100 card. Any advice as to where I can find it in ME?

ktwebb: I've looked there... nothing allows me to force 100Mbps. What's goin' on? I can't be MISSING part of the Network applet.... 😕

Well, it would be a part of the driver set actually. Maybe it's just not included though it would be odd to me. You have updated drivers for the NIC?

Most recent drivers are being used.
Maybe I should upgrade it to XP? I have the same NIC in my XP box and it works fine (on the same network). It's a pain to upgrade (I'd have to be careful and back up all the right files), but it may solve the problem.

Can you think of any more solutions? Or is this just a very strange problem?

could be configuration (like TCP window sizes on me machine), hard drive config, faulty network card, poor cabling, duplex mismatch.

I'd try swapping NICs and cables. BTW, what NICs and switch are you using?
