Slow uploading @ Dreamhost

The upload speeds to my site sit between 30-49.8 kbps. I am experiencing this all the time (everytime) and with two different FTP clients. My tested upload speeds are consistently @ 200-300kbps from Comcast. All settings with both FTP clients are set with no limit on upload speed. I have not tried connecting with other hosting accounts, mainly because I do not see the need to start another until I know they cannot get the problem fixed. I have been back and forth with them for a couple days about it, they say there is no cap.

What kind of upload speeds are you guys seeing with your hosts?

Any suggestions here?

JackMDS any ideas?

What if you upload to another server? Do you have something you can test? My upload speed is usually slower, but I really dont notice since I dont uploade huge files.

I upload at and download at max to ipowerweb.com, which is my host...
then again my upload is only 45KB yet download is 5MB (=610KBish).
I never had a problem with them.
I actually thought about switching to dreamhost because of the price/product ratio, but I hear their control panel is kinda weird and confusing, and now you say slow speeds...
is it like that when you download from them too?

No the dl is fine. You say your max upload is 45kbps? But your down is 610k?

I don't think that is right. You aren't getting your max upload speed either.

Are you sure that the upload speed shown by Comcast isn't kilobits? Because those translate to 25-36kBps (kiloBytes)

Here are the results from dslreports:

2005-06-30 10:11:23 EST: 3900 / 345
Your download speed : 3993697 bps, or 3900 kbps.
A 487.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 354248 bps, or 345 kbps.

What do you make out of this?

Sounds about right. Assuming you have a 4 MBps down/384 Kbps up connection. If you have a large connection you should contact your ISP about your throughput.

Ok what is 345 kbps in KBps? or is it the same?

My bandwidth monitor (NetGrid) reads units in KBps, and that is what I have used to judge upload speeds to my server.

8 bits = 1 byte

Network speeds are always ratied in bits per second. As data is measured in Bytes, typically you have to take your network speeds and divide by 8. Allowing for network overhead, you should come around 85-90% of your max throughput.

Which if your upload speed from DSLreports is saying. Roughly 90% utilization, 345 Kbps or 43KBps

Whats your rated connection speed?

Actually it's all figured out now. That made it clear. Thanks!
