I've got a 7200 rpm hd and a 5400 rpm hd. It seems to transfer faster when the 7200 rpm one is receiving, and slower when the 5400 is receiving files. Is this normal or could it be because the drives are daisy chained with the 7200 rpm drive as the master.

That sounds about right.

Test them to see for yourself. pull out your CD-ROM and then put your 5400 as secondary master..... You will more than likely get the same results.

You'll get slow transfer rates from two daisy chained hard drives. because it can only read form one drive then write to one drive.
