Slow transfer speed with Dlink DNS321

Hi there,
I have a Dlink DNS-321 connected to my HP Procurve 1400-8G switch. I use the NAS for mainly playing ripped movies on my main 50in LCD TV. The transfer rate to the media player is very good. However, whenever I transfer new movies or files from my main pc to the Dlink NAS station I never get transfer rate connection any higher than 10MB/sec. Is this normal? Am I missing something? Do I need to setup some kind of VPN with NAS? Thx in advance.
