Slow startup/shutdown

Recently my computer has been starting up and shutting down real slowly. The windows XP loading screen goes 35 cycles before it starts (i'm talking about the blue loading bar), it used to only take 8 or 9 tops.

It might have something to do with the new video card i got, that's the only thing i've changed recently. Not sure why it'd happen, i don't have any spyware/viruses. It also freezes when i get to my desktop for like 20 seconds. It also keeps trying to install some SM Bus controller, which i have no idea what it is, it won't let me install it anyways.

One of those confusing and annoying computer problems...any ideas? No? Crap.

yeah. I would consider it a last resort though.

first go into device manager and see if there is a problem with this Sb bus controller. start/settings/control panel/system/hardware/device manager

have you had a look in msconfig. start--> run--> msconfig
check the startup, services and boot.ini for anything that looks out of place.
You could also try a defrag and disk cleanup.

The SM Bus controller is listed there, but there isn't any additional info on it. I have no idea what it is, and i can't install it anyways, so i guess i'll try uninstalling that if possible.
