Both Windows pc and NAS are hooked up to my ASUS AC66U router via cat5e cables
Been moving movies and files all day (drag/drop into file station) and averaging 5-12MB/s

Is this normal speed?

My MB, ASUS p8z68-v/gen3 has gigabyte nic card, its set to that/full duplex in windows 8. Jumbo Frames is off on it, router, and the NAS. Seems the speeds are not very fast at all. I doubt my Bitdefender Security suite (AV/Firewall) is contributing to this slow speed. Suggestions?

If you have the option for jumbo frames, they should be turned on, not off. You should still be getting speeds better than 100Mb, even with them off, though, more like 20+MBps.

Just as a sanity check, have you made sure that you are connecting at GbE speeds?

Which Synology do you have? I also get around 80MB/sec when moving files on my network.

Ill enable Jumbo Frames then on my router, in the NAS, and on my NIC.
I have a DS213.

I assume I am connecting at GbE speeds, under Control Panel - Network on the NAS it says Network Status: 1000, Full duplex, MTU 1500.

I looked at the cables from my computer to router, and the nas to the router, both say cat 5e on them too.

copying tons of small files in folders has always been slow. Is it also slow when only copying 1 large file and nothing else?

Thanks, small files I did not know about. Getting about 50-80MB/s with large mkv file.
