Slow speed when backing up Windows 2000 Server - Any ideas?

I am using BackupExec on a NetWare server to back up my whole network, which includes NetWare, NT 4.0 and 2000 servers. The netware servers backup just fine, even the NT 4.0 servers aren't too bad, but the speed when backing up my Windows 2000 servers is VERY slow.

I've tried to tweak some TCP/IP settings on Win2k, and I've even tried to use IPX/SPX instead of TCP/IP as the protocol when backing up. Regardless, the speed is very slow.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to speed up transfer time? Maybe I don't know something about Win2k that I whould know...

How slow is very slow, and do you have the remote agent installed on all the servers that you are backing up?

Which version of backupexec by the way

Yes, I have the remote agent on the server I'm backing up - I'm using BackupExec 8.5

I'm only getting 33 MB/minute compared to my other servers getting at least 100 MB.minute.

Confusing...?

What are the specs on the machines that are fast to backup and the specs on the slow ones? Are they the same? Do they all go through the same switch? Are the 2000 boxes running Exchange 2000?

One more thing...how much data are we talking about per server? Do the machines that backup faster have more data than the slower ones? Sometimes I've seen that the speed takes a while to get to its peak level, so if you arent backing up much data, you wont see very fast speeds.

One other thing you might want to check is the fragmentation of the NT and 2000 boxes. If the partitions being backed up are heavily fragmented, that would slow performance
