I am using BackupExec on a NetWare server to back up my whole network, which includes NetWare, NT 4.0 and 2000 servers. The netware servers backup just fine, even the NT 4.0 servers aren't too bad, but the speed when backing up my Windows 2000 servers is VERY slow.

I've tried to tweak some TCP/IP settings on Win2k, and I've even tried to use IPX/SPX instead of TCP/IP as the protocol when backing up. Regardless, the speed is very slow.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to speed up transfer time? Maybe I don't know something about Win2k that I whould know...

What NIC do you have in the 2k machine? I've got a list of NICs that just plain suck longer than my arm, starting with anything from Realtek, and the new Netgear FA311/FA312 and all other NatSemi based NICs. (FA310's are great. Buy a 50 pack and sell the leftovers on eBay!) :) Other than that, no ideas offhand.

One of the servers is using an Intel Pro/100 Server adapter, the other one using a brand new 3com Gigabit adapter. Both of them back up at about 33 MB/minute!

I think it's something jacked up with the fact that I'm running BackupExec on a NetWare server.

Yeah, the Intel I know is a good card. The 3Com, probably a CPU whore like all of them. Might also be a bottleneck in the network. But then again, 2K and Novell, I have no clue how they get along.. your guess is as good as mine on this one, I'm afraid. :(
