Recently, I completed a reformat and fresh re-install of XP Pro. I did a Windows Update and installed all of the security updates and SP2. To get ahead of the game, I downloaded BitDefender 8 Professional, SpywareBlaster, and Ad-Aware SE Personal after reading most of Schadenfroh's Guide to Removing/Preventing Spyware and his personal evaluations. I have enabled all protections on SpywareBlaster and I have enabled everything on BitDefender (firewall, virus protection and spam filtering).
Since then I have noticed a substantial increase in time it takes to load web pages. And, in fact, some sites that I used to have access to, I get a "page can not be displayed" message.
I have tried closing down BitDefender and disabling all of the protections on SpywareBlaster, but to no avail. What else could be causing the slowdown?
