Slow shutdown by 'explorer.exe' & 'SysFader' in W2KPro

Slow shutdown by 'explorer.exe' & 'SysFader' in W2KPro.

When I go to shut-down or reboot W2K I'm told that first 'explorer.exe' is not shutting down and then it happens with 'SysFader.' What could be causing this? I update W2K from the internet whenever an upgrade is available; could it be these upgrades?

I had some Win2K systems that showed the End Process dialogs on Explorer and SysFader on occasion. The behavior went away after SP2 was applied. Sounds like you've already applied SP2 (if you've kept up with the updates).

SysFader is one of the special effects operators in Win2K. You could shut those off by going into the Display Properties dialog. That should see an end to the SysFader issue. (If you're not using it, it won't be slow to shut down.) Not sure what to suggest about the Explorer delay, though. I believe you can increase the amount of time allowed for the shutdown and / or tell Win2K to force Explorer to shut down automatically after a certain delay. I'm always a little leary of forcing Explorer to die because of the possibility that something important may not yet have been written to disk.
