slow running computer

ok, just formatted computer yesterday, it was running fine, now the CPU usage is out the ^$#$ing roof....i have had ever possible problem with my computer in the past month and i am losing my patience, i want to thank everyone that has helped on my problems.

ok, first, specs:
3.0 C GHZ P4
NB60N shuttle board
80 and 160 GB WD HD
AUDIGY
1 GB PC2100
16X DVD
8X DVD RW
400W Raidmax PSU
GeForce 4 Ti4600 128MB PNY

this problem occurs at ALL TIMES... i open my computer and CPU usage jumps to 90-95% for 15 seconds in where the computer drags @$$. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ASAP

What is running at 90-95%?

Explorer or some other application?

my guess it would be some virus, spyware, etc causing the problem. It would be a good idea to look into good utilities that will help you detect them and tell you how to get rid of them.

Update Windows, update your drivers, run AVG Antivirus, run Spybot.

yeah, forgot about checking spyware, but all drivers and windows is updated already.

and the 90-95% is my CPU, ya know, when you check under the process managar

is adaware still the best?

Yea probably spyware or drivers. My A64 jumped to 30-40% when i moved a window around the screen because it was runnin off windows crappy drivers. Use adaware and spybot (think its called spybot) theyre both good and scan for diffrent thing so together theyre even better.

which process in the task manager is using a large amount of the 95% you mentioned? that'll help you see if its within windows or some spyware problem

Make sure you have the latest drivers for every device. Sometimes bad motherboard drivers can cause problems like yours.

on windows updates, it says i have the latest drivers for everything except my video card (cant play BF1942 with latest drivers, would like to upgrade them some but i can only find the newest ones).

Also, on the processes, on the bottom where it says CPU usage, that is where it says 95%

You don't go to windowsupdate.com for the latest drivers!!! You goto the webpage for each company that makes your devices, then you download the latest drivers and install 'em.

Well thats prolly ur problem right there dude go update the graphics drivers n see if it runs faster (i bet it does)
