So my setup is currently a dir-655 router with gigabit cable to one desktop (with gigabit nic) and 802.11n to laptop. I have two external usb hard drives plugged into an nslu2 running the newest stock firmware. the nslu2 is only capable of 100mb. For some reason currently for any machine to pull up the external drives it takes upwards of a minute just to see the first folder. If a folder has more than 20 files in it the machines take over 5 minutes to even see the files ( i gave up after 5 minutes). What could be wrong with the configuration with all this. If you need any additional info let me know.

Do you get the same delays if you try to view a shared folder on another computer instead of on the NSLU2 (i.e. try to share files directly between the desktop and laptop)?

Try different network cables if you have not done so already.

Make sure that all devices on the network are set to auto negotiate the link speed.

That's some kind of name resolution problem. Also don't rely on network browsing because it can be very problematic if every single computer on the network is not properly configured. Try accessing the shares with "\\<ipaddress>"
