Slow Pioneer 6x dvd extract?

I'm trying to copy a cd, but my adaptec Ezcd 4.0 tests say my Pioneer 103 IDE dvd drive can't extract data at more than 4-5x. Knowing that my drive is supposed to be one of the fastest (of it's time), I find it hard to believe I can't copy at 6x.

anyone has this problem?

I'm burning with a yamaha 6x scsi cdrw using win2k.

Another thing, anyone know how to tell if dma is enabled in win2k, and how to disable it?
