Hey guys I just upgraded from a 9600xt to a 9800pro and everything runs
much better (1700 --> 2700 3dmark 05) except for CS source. I have the game set to all
low and 1280x1024. The framerate actually isnt bad, I get 80 on the stress test, but the game hiccups alot, which it never did before. Also, any time a barrel is on the screen, my console fills with constant errors about missing files, that may be contributing to the hiccupping. I deleted and restored source, which did nothing, and am in the process of redownloading it now.

I have the newest omegas, are older ones better for the old 9800? The rest of my system is: P4 2.4/1 meg/533, 1 gig DDR2700 (not in dual channel). I upped the ram from 768 to 1 gig and installed the video card at the same time, so I suppose either could be the culprit. My CPU is rather lame as well but everything was good on the 9600xt..

ideas? thanks

1) Follow the ram instructions above
2) Try decreasing your resolution
3) Try increasing your AGP aperture in the BIOS
4) Try increasing your swap file size

What power supply are you running? The 9800pro isn't the biggest power hog in the world, but it does suck more watts/amps than the 9600xt, and based on your other components your PSU probably hasn't been replaced in a while.

My PSU is a 430 watt A-Power, i've never heard of the company either, it ran a P4 3.0 fine with the 9600xt and a gig of DDR400 before I sold both.
I'll try testing the ram soon.

The video errors I get say:

Warning: using WorldTwoTextureBlend on a non-displacement surface (material: de_dust/groundsand_blend). Support for this will go away soon.

material models/props_c17/oil_drum001f is being applied to a model, you need $model=1 in the .vmt file! (whenever an invisible barrel is on screen, but some barrels are normal)

I installed the ATI drivers and it didnt make a difference. I'm running two 80 gig WD SE hdd's, one SATA, the other IDE, which just has data on it.
