slow p4

just finished building a new p4 2gig
aopen ax4ge-n with 256 mg pc2100 ram
ati 7000 video 64 mg
maxtor 40gig 7200rpm hd
the system just does not perform as well as it should
when running ghost recon games it is choppy even with all settings set lo lowest quality
system requirments for game is
* CPU - Pentium II 450 MHz processor or equivalent
* Memory - 128 MB of RAM
* Operating System - Windows 9X/ME/2000/XP
* DirectX - DirectX 8.0 or higher (included on CD)
* Video Card - 16MB DirectX 8.0 compatible 3D card
anybody have any ideas how to speed it up

IAA installed? Also, the 7000 doesn't have a hardware T&L engine so it's probably part of the problem as well though I have a 900z notebook with a less powerful IGP320 and XP2000+ and I can run GR@8x6x16 smooth with settings on low. You should make certain fastwrites is turned off in the SMARTGART in the control panel and that the main settings bar is set all the way to performance everywhere.

You might try running the opengl setup. I know it helps with quake and such. I don't know how much recon uses gl.
