I changed the following files:

/etc/sysconfig/network
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

Restarted the network service using:

/etc/init.d/network restart

When connecting using ssh client (PuTTY), login is very sluggish, i.e., after entering username, the password prompt does come up for 15-20 seconds. Before the IP change, it used to come up right away after pressing Enter.

Maybe the system's resources are being hogged by something that went a bit haywire after the network restart. A bug or something.

Check out 'top' and such and see if you have a abnormally high system load or something like that.

Did you change DNS to reflect your IP changes? It could be timing out trying to lookup the wrong IP now or something.
