Slow network connection to other comp on network

My connection between my computers seems pretty slow. We are connected via a Linksys router and about 20 ft of cat5. If I ping her IP it is only a 3ms response time however for her to download something from my computer takes forver. 350mb file took 17 minutes. I guesstimate that it is about 500k/s or so. I think I should be getting at least 1mb connection. We both have 10/100.
