Slow loading pic/music files?

I've got an issue with the way things are loading on my PC. Normally, I double click on a photo, and it comes right up. Also, normally, I'd double-click on an mp3 and it will play right away.

But not anymore...it takes an additional (about) 4 seconds for things to load. I've scanned the PC with AVG Antivirus, Norton Antivirus '05, F-Prot Antivirus, Spybot, Ad-Aware, CCleaner, and defragmented with Diskeeper. I also did a run-down on every single process that shows up in my Task Manager; they're all safe.

Neither disabling indexing service nor enabling it made a difference.

Yet, the files still take TOO long to open. I'm beginning to assume that it is not a hack/virus/etc., rather something just plain wrong with some setting or two with the disk drives. The thing is, it's only music, movies, and pictures that take long to load. Everything else is fine.

I also uninstalled Quicktime and RealPlayer. Problem still remains.

Does anybody have any idea what I could do to find the problem? I'm not going to do a system restore.

is your RAM in 2x256 or 1x512, is 2x256, one of your ram sticks, for whatever reason may have stopped working (my best guess)

Welcome to the forums.

use software that not only defrags but also arranges files such as perfectdisk; might help.

If this is true, then you should experience the same "slow loading" problem when you boot in safe mode.

Try it out - post your results.

If the "slow loading" problem dissapears in safe mode, I suspect there is a process interfering with the system that you might have overlooked...

You may also want to check your free disk space and make sure you have about at least 25% available for windows to perform properly especially if you have the swap file on the same disk as the OS. I see you have a 120 gig HD so this may not be the problem unless you have partitioned it into smaller parts.
