slow loading of Google home page elements

I have noticed that in the last several weeks both here at work on my M/S windows XP computer using IE7 and also on my home Ubuntu computer using Firefox 3 that when I open the browser to my home page "GOOGLE", that it takes anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes sometimes (but not always) for the secondary/auxiliary items on the Google home page to be displayed on the screen (the actual Google home page including the main search window is accessed/displayed almost immediately as it always has in the past).

What's is causing this sloooooooooooooow loading of the balance of the Google home page items ?

Thanks.

Are you talking about iGoogle? If so, then yes - it has been running like a dog lately. Add to that the "new" layout that is worse off than the (tabs on top) old layout and today I made the move and ditched this as my home page, replacing it with tabs for each of the main elements.

I have no idea as to what iGoogle is ?

My home page is just plain old http://www.google.com

I am just interested in why it takes the toolbar/menu items so much longer to appear than the guts of the google page !!! And how to fix this so that toolbar elements are loaded along with main page or how to turn it off so toolbar items are not loaded at all.

Thanks.

It's designed that way. Those elements only fade in when you move your mouse. It's Google trying to be minimalist like always. They figure if you are just there to to quickly enter a search then you don't need those other things.

Yes, I see that they are displayed when you move the mouse, however, I have waited several minutes without moving the mouse or doing anything else and eventually they are displayed, so I assume that there is some type of timing function going on, correct ?

Thanks.
