I am at university and we have a network that links everyone's rooms together and to the internet. It is usually very fast, for example internet downloads go at around 500 Kb/sec (dependant on server), people can download from my shared folders across the network at more than a meg a second, and network games / game files downloaded in game are also very fast.
The problem comes when I try and download from someone elses shared folders, and it goes at around 7 Kb/sec :frown: I have tried using someone elses cable and that makes no difference... I think the wierdest thing is that internet downloads go faster local downloads, and people can download from me as fast as from anybody else. My network card is a 3com Etherlink 10/100 PCI TX NIC (3C905B-TX), so is that a bad card that would display these strange effects?
I can provide details of how my network card is set up etc if required. I have TCP/IP installed and am running client for microsoft networks just like everybody else. My machine is win98.
