"Slow" iPhone 3G? I don't mean the network and incremental restore?

Maybe I'm just getting impatient in my old age, but it seems like my iPhone is grinding to a halt these days. Loading apps (facebook, etc) or even just trying to get to the messages app seems like it's taking forever. Do I need to "reinstall" the OS or anything? Is there a way of fixing this? Regardless, June can't come soon enough....

...and I have a backup/restore situation, I think, and I'm wondering if there's a solution: I have some stuff that I deleted (cuz I'm an idiot and deleted a bunch of email, thinking I had copies when I didn't. I can't remember exactly, but I think I deleted gmail inbox stuff, thinking the 'sent' emails would be there, but they weren't. And I then I emptied my trash. Like a moron). Anyway, some of this stuff is sent in text messages that I think I have on my last iPhone restore. The problem, is that I do a restore/update/backup/etc once every, oh, three months or something. So if I restore, I'll lose the stuff since then. Is there a way of backing up my current stuff, restoring to my old stuff, saving it, and then restoring to my new stuff?

Make any sense?

I would try setting up a new itunes installed on another pc, then back it up when you sync it.

Then wipe it and restore from the original pc with the backup.

That's a pretty darn good idea. So backup on a new iTunes, restore to old iTunes, grab stuff, put it in safe place, and then restore to new iTunes?

That should work, no?

maybe because apps are now being wrote with the 3GS in mind? Imagine if a 4G comes out the first iphones will hardly run anything. Guess its better than dropping support all together.

This is a common problem with the 3G, even before the 3GS came out. I'm not sure what causes the slowdowns. Memory leaks maybe. Rebooting it doesn't seem to fix the issues though.

The best way is to sync it, then go into your settings, reset, and select "Erase all content and settings". Then just resync. It will restore everything back where it was without the slow speed. If you do this every six months or so, your iPhone should stay snappy.

AFAIK, apps made specifically for the 3GS won't work on past iPhones. There aren't many though.

yeah that is right. Many games are this way. But thats not what i mean. They might not be made specifically for 3GS, but might be pushing the limit of pre 3GS while 3GS run them fine. This prob isnt happening yet and was more of a joke but it will happen eventually.
