Slow internet on one pc

Hi guys I am having a problem with horribly slow internet speeds with one of the computers on my network. This is my basic setup: Main pc is plugged directly into my speedstream dsl modem (it is not a router). The main pc shares its internet connection with the second pc through an ad hoc wireless network. The main pc has a linksys 802.11g wireless pci card. The second pc has a linksys 802.11b wireless usb adapter. Both pc's have been configured to share files and printers, and that function works perfectly. Main pc has been set to share its internet connection. The internet works on pc number 2, but at very slow speeds. When a url is typed in, the browser will just wait for like 15 seconds before it does anything. When the page finally comes up, it does load relatively quickly, but not as quickly as on the main pc. The internet on the main pc is very quick. Both pc's are running windows xp home sp2. Any ideas on what my problem might be?

Do a cmd line ping to www.google.com or something and see how long it take to resolve from both computers.

Try pinging your DNS server from both machines and see if there is a delay of any sort.

Im assuming you have DHCP setup on both machines, and the wireless is the one lagging. It may just be a bad wireless connection.
