Slow FPS and rainbow colors

HL2 and DoD:Source were playing fine until recently. The game loads ok and I can see normally then in a bit the fps drop and I get rainbow colors. Through PC Alert 4 it says the CPU temp is 40C when I'm playing DoD. Ideas?
 
Check the fan on your video card and make sure its spinning properly. Sounds like your card is overheating under load.

Good advice, also, reseat the card. What card is it? More system specs/details would be helpful.
