slow file transfer from a xp to 2k

I'm trying to transfer a large amount of files from a XP Home computer to one running Win2k. Using a patch cable I can get the transfer to between 6-12% of 100Mbps. I remember transfers a couple of years ago going much faster (win2k to win2k). Is there a problem with winxp? I've uninstalled the QoS crap, but that didn't help. Going to a patch cable increased the rate a little. Oh and the XP firewall has been disabled. Does anyone have any ideas on how to speed it up?

Thanks
