Slow file sharing between computer.

I got a new computer and I want to transfer file from the old one to the new one. The old one doens't have a network card so it's connected to the router using a USB port (the router have only one cat5 slot anyway). Theoratically, USB 1.0 have a max speed of 12 Mbs, and the router status screen does say that's the max speed of the connection to my old computer. The actual file transfer speed is around 1Mbs, which is only a bit faster than my connection to the internet.

Is this a typical speed using the USB port? I don't know much about networking, it took me a while just to figure out how to transfer file at all so I really don't what if this is a good speed with USB or if there's something wrong and it should be faster.
