Slow Ethernet Connection

I have a Netgear router with 3 computers and another router connected. My cable modem is provided by Optimum.

I've never had a connection problem until maybe a week ago. The computer that I'm currently on has an incredibly slow connection. No other computer on the router(s) has a problem.

I've tried switching to my 2nd ethernet port and it doesn't change anything. Pictures and stuff on a webpage wouldn't load completely.

I also installed a PCI ethernet adapter that I had laying around and it helped a little bit. It still takes too long to load a page/image or have a low download/upload rate, but everything on a webpage will load.

I have no idea why this is happening. Can anyone help?

I've tried:
1. New cable.
2. Pluggin directly into the modem.

The connection type for both the PCI and the port on the MoBo are set to 'Auto-Negotiate'.

I don't think this is a network issue. I would look into virus/spyware/other crap on the system.

I could actually be Norton that's slowing the system/network. Test the system without Norton and see. I have found many systems where shutting down Norton and it's services increased speed 25% or more and totally uninstalling all Symantic/Norton products (using "norton_removal_tool.exe") brought a 40% or more speed boost. I never tried to find out why, I just replaced the Norton security services with freeware (I use AVG, Kerio 2.1.5, and Spywareblaster) and scanned/setup the new stuff.

I've found Superantispyware to be a much better Malware cleaner than what Adaware and Spyware Search & destroy are currently.

As you try things get back to us with what you tried and results.
