Slow eject response from Toshiba DVD-ROM

When i try to eject anything from my DVD-ROM the response is often very slow if it responds at all. I can go into My computer, right click the drive and select "eject" and it will eject no problem. I have it set a master and on the end of the IDE cable, the CD-RW is set as slave and placed in the middle of the cable. Not sure if anything there is causing the issues. Also most of the time it autostarts when placing a cd in, but sometimes it's very slow to respond. Anything i can look for? Some specs below 🙂

ESC K7S5A
1.4/266 T-Bird
2X256 Crucial PC2100
Win98SE, IE6
IBM 20G 7200RPM HDD
Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1402
HP CD-Writer+ 9100
Sb Live Value using Boston Digital BA735
Elsa Gladiac GF2 GTS 32MB

Oh yeah, the CD-RW ejects with absolutely no hesitation........
